Homebrew #1: Part 2: Dry Hopping

It's been eight days since we originally brewed this batch, so I could have bottled it if I wanted, but I thought I'd dry hop it for a few days with one of my favorite hop varieties - Amarillo! It also bought a few more supplies at the homebrew store. We bottle it on Saturday!

2011 vlog #21 | See you next week!

Yup, another vlog already! Hard to believe, I know. Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone that I'm going out of town and I have absolutely NOTHING to upload before I leave or while I'm going. So you won't be seeing any videos on either this channel or my Chad'z Beer Reviews channel until Monday (I explain why in the vlog).

Also, I wanted to say thanks to everyone that gave me advice and tips on my homebrew vlog. I'm hoping to bottle it Sunday or Monday night.

Lastly, Christmas is coming up and I already have some beers in mind I'll review during the season.

Oh, I forgot to mention in the vlog that Season 16 won't be starting until either December 1st or the 7th. We'll see...

Slap Frost | Chad'z Energy Drink Reviews #36

I first saw this brand of energy drink at the $1 store, then it started showing up at Walmart so I thought I'd pick one up because I haven't done a no-name-brand energy drink review in a very long time. More often than not these things tend to be just Red Bull or Rockstar clones - would this be one?

Vitamin Water Spark (grape + blueberry) | Chad'z Flavored Water Reviews #13

Man, how long has it been since I reviewed a Vitamin Water product? (no, seriously - look it up because I'm too lazy to). I thought it was about time to give this brand another shot so I randomly picked up this bottle. It looked like a new flavor to me. I kicked myself for buying it when I got home, though, because I don't tend to like grape or blueberry-flavored beverages and this contains both exclusively! Oh well, I'll review it anyway....

Homebrew #1: Part 1: Brewing

After three years of amateur to semi-professional beer reviewing, I thought it was about time I try making some beer of my own. I've helped out my friend Chad once (I'll have to re-post that video sometime), but I've never done it myself. Since it was a Sunday afternoon with absolutely no football games worth watching my friend Shaun spent most of the day helping me out.

First we went to Hammersmith Homebrew Supply in Latham and I dropped almost $200 on all the essential equipment. Then we went to Walmart to get bottled water and ice to chill the wort in the sink. Then we homebrewed on my electric range. I was actually surprised I could effectively make the beer on an an electric stove. I just hope we did everything right, especially with sanitizing the fermenting bucket.

Next Sunday we'll transfer the beer to a carboy for secondary fermentation. Then the Sunday after that we'll bottle it. How will it turn out? I dunno, so keep watching this channel to see what happens next!

2011 vlog #20 | Because I haven't vlogged in a while...

There's been quite a lot happening with me recently (especially in the last week alone) and since it's been about a month and a half since I last vlogged I thought it was about time to bring you guys up to speed on what's happening with me. In this vlog I talk about:

My final thoughts on the Boycott Beer Advocate video I made
My new Verizon Fios
My plan to start homebrewing TOMORROW!
What's in store for episode 600
Yet another vow to cut back on the amount of beer reviews I post (will I be able to stick to it this time?).

Strongbow | Chad'z Cider Reviews #6

This might be one of the most popular brands of cider, globally. Strongbow is made in England by H.P. Bulmer (which is apparently owned by Heinken). This cider is almost always on tap at Mahar's and I like to blend it with Guinness to make a "Spider Bite." I just couldn't wait another month until my next cider review, so when I saw this at my beer store I bought it and reviewed it right away.

Fuze Orange Mango | Chad'z MISC Soft Drink Reviews #23

It's time for a new miscellaneous soft drink brand. This time we're looking at the "Fuze" line of beverages - which are essentially Coke's version of Snapple. Fruity drinks that aren't quite juices, but definitely not flavored waters or anything like that. I've seen these at stores for a long time and most are only about $1 for a full 500ml bottle. So let's see what kind of impression it makes on me with the orange mango flavor for starters.

Chad Tries.... TWO Habanero Peppers!

In yet another homage to a YouTube channel I like, this episode of "Chad Tries...." is dedicated to http://youtube.com/CultMoo - specifically, their "Pepper Show" wherein they eat a hot pepper raw. I like spice, and I'd like to think I have a high threshold for heat, but I've never eaten a hot pepper straight up so I was really curious and a little scared to see what would happen when I ate a habanero.

Boylan Cane Cola | Chad'z Soda Reviews #22

A lot of people have actually been asking me to review this brand and this soda in particular, so I finally decided to review it. Boylan is a soda company out of New Jersey, and my beer store carries a wide range of their products. This is a standard cola just like Coke or Pepsi - the difference being it's made with pure cane sugar and not HFCS. But will it taste any different (or better)? Watch and find out.

Woodchuck Fall Hard Cider | Chad'z Cider Reviews #5

The last cider I reviewed was really disappointing, so I decided to play it safe by returning to the Woodchuck brand - namely their fall seasonal. I think Woodchuck is the only major cidery to brew seasonal ciders. I've liked everything else they've done, so let's see what this "Fall" cider is all about.
