BrewAthlon Hefeweizen | Chad'z Homebrew Reviews #4

Another homebrew made by my friend Chad, better known as "BrewAthlon" in the local homebrewers circles. This is a borderline dunkelweisse, although the kit it came from was a hefeweizen kit. Chad said he used liquid malt extract and flaked wheat grain to make this beer. He said he used extra corn sugar but didn't take a reading of the ABV. I'd personally estimate it at less then 5.5% ABV, maybe even 5%.

Watch the video to see how this hefeweizen homebrew turned out. Also, bear in mind it was slightly old at the time and not super fresh.

5-Hour Energy (berry flavor) | Chad'z Energy Drink Reviews #7

5-Hour Energy is a product I see advertised all the time as an alternative to energy drinks since it only comes in a 2oz shot and doesn't need to be refrigerated. I decided to put it to the test and see if it would give me any more noticeable energy for five hours.

SoBe Lifewater Cherimoya Punch | Chad'z Flavored Water Reviews #2

"SoBe" is an acronym for "South Beach" (as in Miami), which is weird because the company was started out of Norwalk, Connecticut. Anyways, they've been making juice-like products and other such non-alcoholic liquid refreshers since 1996. They are now owned by Pepsi.

Their "Life Water" line is similar to the "Vitamin Water" series - flavored water with lots of vitamins. I decided to start with the Cherimoya Punch.

Gag reel from "Sampling Blue Point beers with brentalfloss and PBCProductions"

It's been a long time since I posted a "gag reel" or "outtakes" video. This particular reel of gags comes from "Sampling Blue Point beers with brentalfloss and PBCProductions" from mid-August. Thanks again to Brent and Brett for participating in this video, it was a lot of fun. In fact, I'm hoping we'll get together for another review later this year!

Imasohoppy Double IPA | Chad'z Homebrew Reviews #3

If you're into the YouTube beer scene no doubt you know the Imasofats - Gary and Melissa.
Recently, they brewed their first successful homebrew, a double IPA appropriately named "Imasohoppy". Gary personally dropped off a bottle at my house and asked me to give it as fair a review as possible. I think I did. Please watch the video and let me know if you agree or disagree.

2010 vlog #23 | beer mail, updates, + surprise guest!

I've received THREE beer mails over the last week, but only filmed myself actually opening the latest (and greatest) of them (if not of all time!). So consider this a sneak preview of what will be reviewed in Season 11. A surprise guest also makes a cameo with a present for me! We also go on a short field trip as well. The Westvleteren 12 review will be posted first thing Monday morning (20 September 2010).

Saranac Root Beer | Chad'z Soda Reviews #3

I didn't realize until right before I shot this review that root beer has been around for a long, long time and it used to be made with sassafras roots (which I didn't know was a real thing until I researched it, either!). These sodas can also be made with up to 20 different spices and other ingredients. Unfortunately, most soda companies use chemicals instead.

Saranac Root Beer is part of their "1888 Soft Drink" soft drink line. It's fairly common to find in restaurants and stores in Upstate New York, but if you're not from here you've probably never had it, let alone heard of it. What's ironic is Saranac's sodas are premium while their beers are pedestrian.

Rockstar Energy Drink | Chad'z Energy Drink Reviews #6

Originally marketed as "half price Red Bull" Rockstar Energy Drink pretty much is. One of the few energy drinks that doesn't use HFCS or aspartame and isn't owned by Coke or Pepsi. It also includes Milk Thistle extract and claims to be "double the strength" of other energy drinks.

This drink is also controversial as it was co-founded by the son of talk radio host Michael Savage and its CFO is Savage's wife (he has no stake in the company himself, though).

2010 vlog #22 | I accidentally deleted my last 20 videos!

I accidentally deleted my last 20 videos! I was trying to check the box to delete my last video since the upload failed but I accidentally clicked the box for "select all" and wound up deleting my last 20 videos! Arrrgh! I WILL re-upload the deleted videos at a rate of two a day. I suppose I could upload ALL of them in a 24-hour marathon but that would tie up my computer and they wouldn't get any views at all because I would flood my subscribers' inboxes. So for the next 10 days I'll be uploading two videos a day in their original chronological order! And no, YouTube will not recover the videos for me. Once you delete a video it's GONE!

How To Pack and Mail Beer (part 1 of 2)

After recently having received a beer mail package where one of the bottles was broken, it occurred to me that there are no instructional videos on how to properly prepare, package, and ship beer. I do quite a lot of beer trading and I often find the other person doesn't always do a proper job packaging the beer they send me (with some notable exceptions, of course).

If you've never mailed beer before, this video should be a helpful tutorial for you. If you HAVE mailed beer and/or if you have any better ideas or methods, please say so in the comments section, or even make a video response. Help prevent beer breakage during shipping!

NOTE: This video is part one of what is now a 2-part series (with a possible third to come). In the second part I show a few more tips on how to package and protect the beers and some do's and don'ts of videoing beer mails.

How To Pack And Mail Beer (part 2 of 2)

This is a supplementary or addendum to the original "How To Pack And Mail Beer" video. I realized there were a few important tips I left out of the original such as accounting for all the empty space in the box; what type of boxes NOT to use and etiquette involved with beer trades (especially when trades are broadcast on the internet for the world to see).

A (drill) Weekend in the Life of Chad (11-12 September 2010)

Since my "Day in the Life of Chad" videos have been so well received, I thought I would expand on them a little with a weekend in my life. But this isn't any ordinary weekend, exactly. It's a Navy Reserves "drill" weekend. I tried to show as much interesting and entertaining scenes from my drill training sessions as possible. I couldn't show everything and anything since not everyone wants to be on camera and some of the information is sensitive. I think this is a pretty good representation of what an average drill weekend might be like for me. There were plenty of things that didn't make the cut though. Let me know what you think of it!

Vitamin Water Zero Squeezed Lemonade | Chad'z Flavored Water Reviews #1

I've been a big fan of the Vitamin Water line of... well.. what are they? They're not really energy drinks and they're definitely not juice or soda, so how to categorize them? Wikipedia calls this line and others like it "flavored water".

Twisted Tea Hard Iced Tea | Chad'z Alcopop Reviews #2

This alcopop is actually made by the Boston Beer Company - in other words, by Jim Koch and SAMUEL ADAMS! Yes it's true!

Not that it's a bad product or anything. Twisted Tea comes in a variety of flavors but I decided to start with the "Original Recipe". Without giving too much away, it's pretty much exactly what it claims to be.

Sioux City Birch Beer | Chad'z Soda Reviews #2

Despite the name this is not a beer review, it's a soda made by White Rock Beverages (which is owned by Coca-Cola, I believe) in Whitestone, NY (New York City)

"Northampton Oatmeal Stout" by 78RecordRepair | Chad'z Homebrew Reviews #1

Welcome to the first episode of "Chad'z Homebrew Reviews". I've been contacted by many homebrewers asking if I would review their beer. To date I've always declined because it didn't seem to fit in with my original channel. But now that I have a second channel and am branching out into other things I thought I would give homebrew reviewing a serious shot.

So this is "Northampton Oatmeal Stout", brewed by (he didn't want me to reveal his real name). I won't say what I though of the beer here, watch the video for that.

Here is the recipe:
8 lbs two row
1/2 lb chocolate malt
1/2 lb roasted barley
1/4 lb black patent malt
1/2 lb crystal 60
1 1/2 lb flaked oats

single infusion mash for 60 minutes.
1 1/2 oz. cascade for duration of 60 min. boil.
10 day primary fermentation safale-05
bottle aged 2 1/2 months

Monster Energy | Chad'z Energy Drink Reviews #5

Monster is one of the most popular energy drinks and is an "independent" drink since it's not made by Coke or Pepsi. I like the fact it does NOT contain High Fructose Corn Syrup or aspartame. It is, not surprisingly, full of other chemicals, though ;) This was an interesting drink, watch the video to see my opinion of it.

Saranac Orange Cream | Chad'z Soda Reviews #1

Welcome to the first episode of Chad'z Soda Reviews. We start with one you're probably not familiar with - Saranac's Orange Cream which is essentially an orange creamsicle in soda form. And yes, this soda is made by the Matt Brewery which makes the Saranac line of craft beers. Their soda line is also "craft" instead of macro.
